Gilda's Clubs Join Discovery Channel for Ted Koppel's Documentary: Living with Cancer
May 6, 2007. New York, NY. Gilda's Club Worldwide shared the promotional spotlight with the American Cancer Society, The American Lung Association, and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, among others, when The Discovery Channel and Discovery Health launched the world premier of a Ted Koppel special "Living with Cancer," on Sunday, May 6, 2007.
KOPPEL ON DISCOVERY: Living with Cancer featured a series of conversations between Ted Koppel and Koppel Group Executive Producer Leroy Sievers and seven-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong, both cancer survivors, in a candid discussion about Living with Cancer. In the video Koppel followed Sievers for 15 months as he dealt with diagnosis, treatment and the everyday grind of living with the disease.
Due to the relevance and impact of the subject and to expand the dialogue, the program cut to a LIVE Town Hall discussion several times during the broadcast where Koppel, Sievers, Armstrong and special guest Elizabeth Edwards fielded questions from the studio audience. Audience attendees included staff and members from Gilda's Club Delaware Valley, and Gilda's Club Provisional Board members from Gilda's Club Greater Washington. Discussion during the Town Hall portion of the event focused on the challenges a diagnosed cancer patient faces and what it takes to truly learn to LIVE with cancer. Clips from the program and ongoing discussions about Living with Cancer continue on the Discovery Channel website.
