Cancer Doesn't Have To Destroy Dreams
CELL THERAPEUTICS SPONSORS VOICES FOR GILDA CD

June 27, 2003. New York, NY. "I promise you will sing again." This is what Mary Kay Johnson told her 13-year-old daughter, Eileen Johnson, when they learned Eileen would most likely lose her voice forever due to cancer. With her mother's support, Eileen not only survived cancer but lived to become an aspiring singer who performs at charity events across the country. Mary Kay and Eileen are members of Gilda's Club.

Gilda's Club is a nonprofit organization that helps people to learn to live with cancer no matter the outcome. Through support and networking groups, lectures, workshops, social events, people are able to regain control and well being. With a better grasp on their lives, those touched by cancer are able to live fully again.

When Mary Kay Johnson learned about Gilda's Club, she recognized the deep need for its services and felt inspired to raise awareness and support for the cause. The Voices for Gilda CD is her brainchild. The CD is a compilation of recordings by celebrities who want to honor Gilda's legacy and includes songs by Eileen, as well.

One of the primary sponsors of the Voices for Gilda CD project is Cell Therapeutics (CTI), a Seattle-based company which is committed to identifying new, less toxic, and more effective ways to treat cancer. Jim Bianco, the CEO of CTI, is a physician who felt inspired to start a biotechnology company because he wanted to develop drugs that could help thousands of people living with cancer.

Gilda's Club Worldwide salutes Gilda's Club Seattle for creating this fabulous CD to benefit our network.
