Gilda Catches A STAR!
LEGACY DOES DOUBLE DUTY THROUGH GILDA'S CLUBS

June 27, 2003. New York, NY. Gilda Radner, America's comedic sweetheart of the 70s and 80s, received great recognition by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. In honor of her involvement in the entertainment industry, a star has been placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at 6801 Hollywood Blvd.

Gilda created unforgettable and hilarious characters on "Saturday Night Live" – Roseanne Rosannadanna, Emily Litella, Lisa Loopner, Baba Wawa and others that live on in reruns today. She later starred in films, including several with her husband Gene wilder, and made her dreams come true when she opened on Broadway in "Gilda Radner...Live from New York."

The honor is especially poignant for Gilda's Club Worldwide, the cancer support organization founded in her memory in 1993. While Gilda was undergoing treatment for cancer prior to her death in 1989, she received emotional and social support, which she believed to be essential. She indicated the need for such places to be made available for people with cancer and their families and friends everywhere. Gilda's spirit lives on at every Gilda's Club, where members join with other "experts" at living with cancer to both give and receive the benefits of love and laughter through the unique Gilda's Club program.

The first Gilda's Club, including a worldwide training center, opened its signature red door in New York City in 1995. Since that time, additional clubhouses have opened in larger cities (Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, Toronto), smaller cities (Fort Lauderdale, Quad Cities, Hackensack, Rochester) and several points in between (Nashville, Grand Rapids, White Plains). Thousands of members now attest to the fact that Gilda's Club has helped change their lives by restoring control and enabling them to plan their own emotional and social support, thus strengthening and enriching the entire family.

"We are so proud to be part of the Gilda Legacy," said Gilda's Club co-founder Joanna Bull. "Gilda's star is a remembrance of all that she possessed including her charm, talent, personality, whimsical spirit and, most of all, her ability to make us laugh. At Gilda's Clubs we remember it's OK to laugh."
